Made it to Lift-Off Sessions (2019) as a Finalist

A project by Athira Suresh (myself), Tai Jing Jie and Jessica Nathania

My Role: Film Director, Fia Voiceover, Environment Design, Colouring, Post-Production (Lighting, Sound, Editing)

We began with conceptualizing and storyboarding our initial ideas before settling on our current plot. We then designed our characters, environments and found our artist references.

Then our two 2D animators began blocking and lining our shots while I worked on the environments and coloured the 2D shots. I compiled the coloured scenes with the rendered backgrounds and completed the lighting and editing.

One out of the two 2D animators, alongside myself, recorded our voices to be used for the two main leads in the film. We hired a narrator, musician, and sound designer, to help compose an original piece, and blend our voiceovers in a cohesive manner.

Artist References

We used 3 artists as reference: Daisuke Richard, Victoria Joh, and Andrea Koroveshi

We used @daisukerichard’s works for his simple flat colours and thin lines. Victoria Joh gave us inspiration through her low polygon environments and geometric textures. Andrea Koroveshi was our biggest influence as his illustrations are set in space, contain strange creatures, incorporate low polygon environments and use mostly cool toned colour schemes: which was the entire feel we were attempting for our film.

Concept Art

Film direction, colours, mood boards, layouts, copy, and environment studies by me.

if you like what you see,
